Komanji Temple belongs to the Honganji faction of the Jodo-Shin sect of Buddhism. The temple was established in 1597 (Keicho 2). It is said that the origin of the temple was a hermitage founded by the second son of Reizen Kazusanosuke Mitsumune, who was killed during the fall of the Ouchi family and whose wife and children came to Ozushima. The cathedral was rebuilt in 1845 (Koka 2) using timber sourced from Ozushima.
