Kaiten Training Base

The facility was once a torpedo test site and was used as the Kaiten training base from 1944 onwards.

Type 93 Oxygen Torpedo Firing Test Pits

Torpedo firing test  was carried out here until the Kaiten Training Base was established in 1944.

Remains of the Torpedo Lookout Post

The remains of the torpedo lookout post stand before the top of Tategami-yama. The torpedo lookout post was used for checking the performance of oxygen-fueled torpedo.

Kaiten Transport Tunnel

Traces of the rails used to transport the Kaiten from the maintenance factory on the sea side to the east are still visible.

Entrance Gate to the Kaiten Base

After passing through the gate, there were maintenance facilities on the left side and facilities related to seaplane reconnaissance aircraft on the right side.

Power Substation

It was a substation facility at a adjustment plant.

Hazardous Materials Storage

It was a storage area for explosives and other hazardous materials carved into the mountainside.

Ignition Test Site

Torpedo explosives were being adjusted and tested for ignition.

Hell Stairway

The steep stairway was used for pilot training. It is currently impassable.

Kaiten Memorial Museum

The Kaiten Memorial Museum serves as a peace education facility, offering visitors oppotunities to reflect on the value of life and the importance of peace.
